On the edge of Billinge Wood with the Yellow Hills above Blackburn.

Recorded by Mark Butler - see 'Book Reviews' ("on a nodal point of a Draon/Ley Line")

    Needs investigation.

Having viewed this stone today (Jan 26) I have to conclude that this stone is no more than an old gate post sited on the former Killard Lane that once ran from Spout Farm on Billinge End Road to the farm at Billinge Nook. By the wall opposite this stone is another that now forms part of a stile.

That's good to know. I found another like t'other year when the Shamania Festival was on near Pendle. There was a 'standing stone' cited to the west of the village at roughly SD 815392, and that turned out to be a gatepost aswell. Not sure how anyone could have ever thought it was owt else tbh!

    All the best - Paul

Yes Paul, I know this stone - it was placed there as a 'rubbing stone' for animals.

The fallen boundary stone above 'Witches Galore' SD 823 394 is shortly due to be re-erected by myself and the gardener there. Supposably it has some 'markings' on it - will report soon.
