New Discoveries - Not to be Reported on Amateur Sites....??? - Bullshite

I am appalled!!! It has been brought to my attention that those with 'powers from above' - one Christine (Kat) Hopwood-Lewis, Regional Historic Environment Advisor,Yorkshire & the Humber region, has requested that any 'new descoveries' of an archaeological nature not be put on these amateur sort of sites. Whether it be the Megalithic Portal, The Northern Antiquarian, or other good "amateur" websites. Who the hell does she think she is!?

How insulting to all the fanatic antiquarians that have a real passion for seeking out these ancient remains. How dare she insult the nature of these sites?, not to mention the many hours in getting these sites up-and-running with the wealth of detailed, researched information that's free to the world to view. I do belive that this is something you do not get on 'professional' sites.

I am sure that there are many Qualified Archaeologists out there that use these sites for a source of reference too.

There have been several times when Finds have been reported to relevent departments only to have a zero response. So what do we do when we do make new discoveries? Do we tell just the closed elite club? or do we continue to provide the information free on-line? After all, there are no Secrecy Acts on locating remains - or are there?

They dig up things and bodies with no comprehension of WHY they were constructed or placed there.
But they have the state behind them, thus they assume this mantle of superiority.
Jealousy is evident also, how dare You all go finding relics that the experts have not found, tut, tut.

Hi Kevin -

I am getting fed-up with these prawn sandwich & wine elite club attitudes.
What they are trying to say is - "You find it, we'll record it & take all the credit."
When these AMATEUR sites (not the forums) report on archaeological remains that have recently been discovered, this makes the PROFESSIONALS feel incompetent. Hence the reason they don't want them highlighted by naturally enthusiastic stone finders.

Just because some people don't have the letters after their name does that mean they are less competent? I don't think so.

I look at things from a slightly different perception.
An Example is -
Amelia is an Italian lady who moved to England when she was 25 years old.
Anita is an English lady that has been studing Italian for 3 years.

They both go for a job teaching Italian - Who is the best person for the Job. The one who has lived it or, the one with the piece of paper?

I will make sure that anymore finds I make of megalithic remains will be reported, but not to them. They will have to find the information from the ones that deserve it - The Antiquarians.
