An afternoon field trip to CASTERCLIFFE BRONZE AGE HENGE COMPLEX that is located on Tub Hills above Colne in Eastern Lancashire - new evidence places this site into the Early Bronze Age/Late Neolithic as against the previous thinking that it was an Iron Age hillfort.

Other local sites from that remote period will also be taken in.

DURATION: 3-4 hours - back in time for us teas.

Good to see you back on the site Sunbeam, pity a number of bayards have tried to spoil this site in the past - 'may the sky fall in on them' ...

After you left we went up to view Twist Castle, Ringstones and the stone circle - great day!

By the way Ray did you know that a few years ago, on work to the school near St Helena's Well (Marsden), a tiled Roman floor was uncovered (maybe a Villa complex) and that the school made some recordings.

Could you look this one up Ray ?

Nope, never heard of this John - its a surprise to me, although with that name St Helena. Maybe the school would have some record of this. Very interesting all the same. I have heard that a Roman altar has been excavated at the site of a Cumbrian Roman fort. This has an inscription to the god, Jupiter, in quite good condition. Awaiting further information. Sunbeam.
