I got to the trig on Rivock at noon, but no one else. Thought I'd mucked the time up, it happens. Sooooo, I had a root among the accredited stones up there, which aren't that impressive, then decided to set off for a wander meself. It was a glorious day, and I could hear gunshots to the west and a pack of hounds to the east. Deciding that a demise from being torn to death by hounds, would be more ecologically correct than a bellyfull of buckshot, I headed east.
A fair amount of tussock and bog trudging, assures me that it is unlikely, that all the rock art on that end of the moor has been unearthed. I encountered the hounds which were too busy enjoying the day to harrass me; and had a pleasant converstion with the Mistress of hounds, who presented a becoming prospect, being suitibly attired to the task, but knew nothing of rock art. As I sauntered back I came upon what looks like an unacknowledged cup mark rock art SD076442, or thereabouts. Anyway I'm uploading some pics of it to my new flickr account, along with others. I claim no copyright so anyone can use em'. I'd be cheeky to claim copyright, as I'm no David Bailey.
It's apparent that I need some sort of scraping device, other than a metal trowel, for further investigation. Don't want to cause any damage, so I'm gonna arm myself with a window scraper and a shaving brush, like a proper archeologist! If that don't impress the Mistress of hounds, I'll go west and get myself shot.
Also apparent, that given the plethora of petra on that patch, (alliteration addict) a number of persons doing a sweep is required, or several incarnations of one. So I will be willing to enjoin with a throng to that end at any future time if available. Next weekend hopefully.
Blessings
