Compulsory Archaeological Surveys? Empty Compulsory Archaeological Surveys?

Post  deadagaindave Sun Aug 14, 2011 5:43 am

I recently heard somewhere that a compulsory archaeological survey must be undertaken before any construction work in the UK, can proceed? This needs checking out, and I'd appreciate any info' from people who are involved in construction etc.. Can't help wonder if it applies to pipe laying? If it does... Rolling Eyes

That's true Dave. But it seems this may have been completely ignored in the laying of the pipeline running over Snowden Moor & Askwith Moor, north of Otley. Were you thinking of this Dave? -

The regional archaeologist for this area is Neil Redfern & you can email him at - Neil.Redfern@english-heritage.org.uk + the other person to contact is Christine Hopwood who works for Natural England and covers the welfare of the ecosystem here - her email is Christinekat.Hopwood-Lewis@naturalengland.org.uk

...Or RU thinking of another infringement...? Pray, tell! Wink

No just that one Paul. It would be interesting to know when the regulation came into force, as there could be numerous such projects as the pipeline, that were approved before it's inception.
I'll contact the people you point to over the next few days, and let you know of any responses.

Be intriguing to hear what they say. The disturbance on the moor that Danny photographed is pretty recent. I think Danny said he saw some workmen up there a few months ago doing the recent digs....
