Alternative Archeology: Recommended Books? Empty Alternative Archeology: Recommended Books?

Post  druidoffire Wed Jul 20, 2011 11:16 pm

    Hello,

I am looking for information / recommendations on possible book regarding the archeology of Standing Stones from an ALTERNATIVE archeology perspective. I've tried to find books that discuss the many sacred sites throughout the British Isles from an "alternative" view historically, archeologically, and even spiritually. I literature on Lay Lines that discuss standing stones and stone circles to a small degree but I am trying to find more.

Does anyone have any literature / books that they would recommend or at least share what I am looking for?

    Thanks so much!

    Hi John! Cool

There's the usual starter of John Michell's New View over Atlantis, but you can do no better than start with Paul Devereux's works:

Lines on the Landscape (with Nigel Pennick)
    Shamanism and the Spirit Lines
    Earthmind
    Places of Power

He's done plenty of others, but they're well worth starting out with.

For your standard megalithic texts, Get hold of Aubrey Burl's:

    Rites of the Gods
    Great Stone Circle
The Stone Circles of Britain, Ireland & Brittany

For issues relating to the sacred Earth, get hold of:

    Eitel, E.J., Feng-Shui
Evans-Wentz, W.Y., Cuchuma and Sacred Mountains
    Michell, John, The Earth Spirit

For decent analysis of druidic/Celtic (add your own metaphor) mythos, get hold of:

Jones, Leslie Ellen, Druid, Shaman, Priest
Rees, Alwyn & Brinley, Celtic Heritage
    Ross, Anne, Pagan Celtic Britain
Tolstoy, Nikolai, The Quest for Merlin

But probably more important, AVOID books like The Standing Stones Speak and similar clairvoyant messages of druids and megaliths. They'll put you back a lifetime or 2 in research and development!

    Hope they're of help!

All the best - Paul study
