Devil’s Den Cup-Markings

Hi folks!

Found this little example of what seems to be some cup-markings in that southern-realm of England, in Wiltshire:

Two distinct cups are there.

RockRich asks: "On the right image is there a horseshoe shape, or is it a natural curving fissure?"

Good question! I noticed it when I was atop of the monument, but didn't really give it much attention tbh. It seemed natural. But in the images we've got back (the large-sized ones before they're reduced) a couple give the impression of continuity which wasn't noticed when we were there. So the answer is: not sure! I'd err on the side of caution tbh, as the cracks and lines seemed more natural on first impression.

...Y' know the images Geoff took for you of the DD's cup-marks? When you've got time is there any chance you could give 'em a look-over & see if this 'oval' or horseshoe impression appears on the photos any clearer than the ones I attached to the TNA entry. I looked at it when I was stood on the capstone, but thought it looked more natural - but the more I look at the photos, the more puzzled I'm getting. They could be man-made. The symbol could p'raps be a repeat of the horseshoe, 'U'-shaped bit on the Fyfield cup-marking you showed us earlier in the day. Are the 2 sites along the same boundary line?

Get wot y' mean Rich. The potential etching on the DD certainly wasn't that obvious at all. Pete sez he's gonna frobble back up there to see what he can see. Fingers crossed!

Soz I aint been in touch sooner. Mi computer completely fuctup t'other day. Had to gerrit down to the PC-centre in town and buy a completely new motherboard, etc. Back up-and-running now though. Cheers for the xtra DD-cup-mark pikkies!
