I noticed this large round-shaped boulder in Spring Woods near Whalley, Lancashire, the other day while having a walk there. Could the boulder be a glacial erratic deposited here at the last Ice-Age ? or could it be some ordinary boulder from a nearby quarry ? It looks like its been here a long time judging by the amount of moss all over it. It stands beside a footpath at the lower end of a wooded hillside, not far from the carparks at Os grid reference SD.741 361.The Iron-Age hillfort is Portfield is only half a mile from here. Anyone know anything about the boulder.
