I came across this by chance and have copied a piece, the high lights in Red are mine as are the smilies :-

Twelve years ago these Tall Ones "spoke from the dust" again during earthworks at Waikaretu. Contractors discovered a cave set into a limestone bluff. Inside were skeletons in stone crypts. By the length of the femurs, the bodies were 7-8ft tall. Anthropologists Suspect from Auckland and Waikato universities were called in, then followed a complete shutdown of the site,Evil or Very Mad with a 75 year moratorium placed upon it. Maurice Tyson of Tuakau, a contractor in the area for 50 years, recalls how this upset the men who had discovered the cave and who could not understand why such a valuable archaeological site should be kept secret.Evil or Very Mad Maurice also speaks of seeing a stone village with walls near the mouth of the Waikaretu Stream. Stone from the village was crushed to use for road metal Mad and nothing now remains.

Hi Paul it was more the shut down of the site by the academic mafia that caught my eye along with the other site destruction, to build a road -- cheers Danny

That unpalatable truth link is fascinating.
No wonder we gingers are so few in number, if the likes of the ancient Maoris felt free to munch us. They may have scoffed those tall people too, because they were winning all the line out ball. What a Face
