Following on from Danny's link to Harry Speight's book (the guy was a superb historian - probably the best Yorkshire historian we've ever had!), you can find some of his other works on-line, FREE, below.

Chronicles and Stories of Old Bingley

    Upper Wharfedale

    Lower Wharfedale

Through Airedale, from Goole to Malham

    Kirkby Overblow & District

    Romantic Richmondshire

Nidderdale and the Garden of the Nidd

The only 2 of his that I can't find on-line are Upper Nidderdale, and his Where to Spend a Half-Holiday: Pleasant Walks round Bratf'd. He also wrote Tramps & Drives in the Craven Highlands, but this was a much shortened version of his Craven & NW Yorkshire Highlands book. If anyone has owt more by this fella, please let us know. He wrote a couple of lengthy articles as I recall: one on the history and genealogy of the Hawksworth family & village, which I wouldn't mind gerrin a copy of. study

Huge thanks for the offer. Wink Much appreciated. But I've got all Speight's books in their original hardback states apart from his Upper Nidderdale and Pleasant Walks round Bratf'd. Typically the ones that aint on-line free. No Just my luck! I keep nicking the Upper Nidderdale from the local library for a week or 3 & need to get round to buying mi own copy.
