Does anyone know owt about the 'Standing Stone' marked on the earliest OS-map and a number of later ones, about a half-mile south of Wholestone Hill, betwixt (roughly) Golcar and Slaithwaite, at roughly SE 0767 1556? Has it been destroyed? Izzit buried or laying where it once stood? Wozzit prehistoric? A cattle-rubbing post? Gatepost? Lampost? Lampoonery?
What was/is this 'standing stone'? (I'll add a highlighted map of the spot a bit later) Are there any images of the old fella?
