Spittle Syke flows through Deep Dale to join Stock Beck NE of Gisburn. Deep Dale dyke is part of a Linear Earthwork that is the 'Coal Pit Lane' Dyke.

The name 'spittle' may refer to the site of a mediaeval hospital as is the case with 'Spittle Field' above Barrowford SD 852 403.
